If you think the Lord might be calling you to religious life or a life of consecrated virginity, now is the time to start implementing a daily horarium or schedule. There are practical and spiritual reasons for why a daily schedule is so important to our discernment. If you want to know the voice of God and better discern where He is calling you, you have to spend time with Him. A daily schedule allows us the freedom to decide when, where and how we choose to pray; while at the same time exercising our spiritual muscles in the virtue of discipline. "My son, from your youth embrace discipline; thus will you find wisdom" (Sirach 6:18). Additionally, a daily schedule allows us to make the best use of our time, brings peace of mind; and if called to religious life, will provide familiarity and experience for living a daily schedule.
Here is an example of a daily schedule for someone wanting to grow closer to Christ and discern their vocation.
6:00am Rise
6:30am Gospel reading with meditation
7:00am Breakfast
8:00am Rosary and Mass
9:00am School, study, work
12:00pm Angelus, mid-day Examen of Conscience
12:05pm Lunch
12:30pm School, study, work
3:30pm Chaplet of Divine Mercy
5:00pm Dinner
8:00pm Spiritual Reading/free time
10:00pm Night prayers, evening Examen of Conscience, lights out.
You know your schedule best, so have fun! Be creative and don't stress! The important thing is that you are setting time aside each day to enter into a loving dialogue with the God Who loves you!
