What kinds of toppings do you like on your pizza?
You can never go wrong as long as there’s pineapple and meat.
What is one skill people would be surprised you have?
Unicycling is usually the skill people seem most surprised by. I learned how to ride with my dad a few years ago over a summer and have recently been trying to pick up some tricks.
If you had a talk show, who would be your first guest?
In an ideal world, my first guest on a talk show would be Jordan Peterson. I think he is a really interesting figure and has a lot of unique theories about what truth and beauty are. I would want to talk to him to form my own opinion about him instead of just hearing rumors about him.
What is your favorite line from a Eucharistic prayer?
“He stretched out his hands as he endured his Passion, so as to break the bonds of death and manifest the resurrection.” This is my favorite line in all of the Eucharistic Prayers because it reminds us of the biggest reason to be thankful to God. Without Jesus’ passion and death, we would still be slaves to sin and death, but through them, we are set free. This line both reminds us of why we should be thankful, and it gives us hope for what is to come.
How would you advise someone who wanted to deepen their love of the Eucharist?
There is no alternative for frequent reception of the Eucharist. If they are able to get to a few daily Masses a week that would be the best thing for them. It is an incredible gift that our Lord and Savior comes to us in the form of bread and wine. You can never be closer to Christ than through the reception of the Eucharist. Christ works through us and transforms us in the Eucharist, and if we ask him to help us grow in our love of the Eucharist, he will grant our request. It is also said that no prayer is as effective as the one prayed after reception of the Eucharist.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is also important for growing in love of Christ in the Eucharist. Placing yourself in front of the Eucharist can make a huge difference. These two things have been the most important for my personal growth in my faith recently.
When you envision yourself celebrating Mass one day as a priest, what do you imagine will be going through your mind and heart?
Celebrating Mass would definitely be an incredible experience. I imagine many of my thoughts and feelings would be trying to comprehend the immense gift that is in front of me. Being humans, we cannot possibly understand the full significance of what is happening in the Mass. Because of this, God can reveal bits and pieces to us at the time he wants us to understand. Picturing the angels and saints praising Christ in the Eucharist would certainly help me to see part of the importance of the Mass.
Another thought going through my head might be gratitude for the sacrifices that Christ made during his life so that we would have the freedom to worship him more fully and even to receive him in his fullness. The lives of the saints would also be in my mind. The great saints whose lives were based around the Mass and the worship of God are examples of how we should treat the Eucharist and how to understand what God is saying to us through it. I think the thought that would be on my mind and heart the most would be how I can pray the Mass and show the respect to the sacrament that Christ intended.
Which saint should people invoke for your vocation?
People should invoke St. Gabriel the Archangel for my vocation. He is God’s messenger and my confirmation saint. Being a messenger of God through preaching is what first inspired me to be a priest.
